Pre-Market Outlook – 21.08.2026
Nifty Prev. Close: 24231.85
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Losing Streak Broken, But Momentum Needs Confirmation – The Nifty snapped its prolonged 12-session losing streak, signalling an initial improvement in market sentiment after sustained selling pressure. However, the recovery needs follow through to establish that the recent rebound is more than a short term technical bounce.
Going ahead, the index needs to sustain above the 18th August high of 24270 and build consecutive positive sessions to regain momentum and strengthen bullish conviction. Failure to sustain the recovery could bring back selling pressure and keep the index within a volatile consolidation phase.
A stable opening is expected for the benchmark indices despite mixed global cues. During the session, the Nifty may continue to witness range-bound movements between 24,150 and 24,300. A decisive break on either side could set the next directional move, with a break below 24,150 potentially dragging the index towards 24,000, while a sustained move above 24,300 could open the path towards 24,500.
Traders may continue to adopt a Sell-on-Rise strategy until the index decisively closes above the stipulated date’s high, signalling a meaningful improvement in market behaviour.
From a positional perspective, investors may consider gradually accumulating quality positions during declines, as the prevailing weakness could provide opportunities to participate in a potential sharp rebound and emerging trend reversal.
