A decisive close above immediate resistance could strengthen the rebound, while failure to clear it may invite profit booking and renewed weakness.
With an improved behavioural structure, the benchmark indices are likely to open on a flat note with a cautious bias, despite mixed cues from overseas markets. The rest of the day’s movement is expected to depend largely on the outcome and commentary from the RBI’s monetary policy meeting, particularly its stance on interest rates. Any indication of a shift in the policy outlook could trigger increased volatility and set the tone for the next directional move.
Based on our earlier assessment of the RBI’s likely actions over the coming meetings, the following scenarios may help investors understand the possible market impact and act accordingly.
Scenario 1 – High Probability: If the RBI keeps rates unchanged, Nifty may cheer the outcome and move towards 23000, its core interim capping zone, with 22500 acting as immediate support.
Scenario 2 – Lower Probability: If the RBI hikes rates, selling pressure could emerge, with 22800 acting as an immediate resistance. A decline below this level may drag Nifty towards 22500, followed by 22400.
Positionally, traders and investors may continue to deploy a portion of their planned capital through a staggered accumulation strategy, using the prevailing volatility to identify fundamentally sound and technically attractive stocks.
